I was reading Tiller's post below and it reminded me of a saying that Tiller and I used to have in war2. Before we would start a team game we'd tell each other "Perfect play ok?". In war2 and war3 there are many situations where if you simply play perfectly you will win everytime. What does perfect play mean? Here's two examples of what I think it is.

#1 Superior unit control- The best example of this that I can think of is one war2 game that was extremely close. Tiller had 4 ogres with lust and our enemy had 2 barracks with a cannon tower. Tiller then proceeded to sit just out of the range of the enemy's cannon tower until just before a new ogre was about to be built. At that point Tiller would lust his meager group of 4 ogres up and run in to trap and kill the enemy's new ogre. Tiller repeated this task until he had built about 12 ogres and was able to tear down the enemy's barracks. Most players in that situation would either run their four ogres away or waste them needlessly to the cannon tower. Tiller's superior unit control was a perfect example of "perfect play."

#2 Management of resources and Efficiency- In "perfect play" a player should have absolute control over his resources and what he plans to do with them. Build orders should be executed perfectly and every movement should have meaning. A long time ago I tested low resource war2 build orders against NauticaX and the one thing I learned is that every movement at the beginning of the game makes a big difference. You simply cannot make ANY mistakes during the first part of the game. Every peon's movement should be as short as possible and the build order should have the maximum efficiency. I think this is very important in war3 because it allows you to begin creeping faster. The better war3 players will be out creeping faster than the mediocre ones.

Anyway, I just thought I'd share that phrase with everyone. The very best part about playing perfectly is that you know that you WILL win the game because you opponent isn't playing as perfectly as you are :).

Perfect Play Thoughts

-Imagine Perfect Play is a box. Never think outside that box.

-Start each day with the goal of Perfect Play. Take some time to focus on reaching Perfect Play.
